The Volo City Kids Foundation is looking for a driven, innovative, and personable go-getter who has a passion for youth development and long-term social impact. We are on a mission to provide free sports and healthy meals to 10,000 kids nationwide by 2020, and this program manager will be essential in aiding us in bringing this mission to fruition.

This person will serve as the key lead and point of contact for all Baltimore youth programming. This role will start off as a part-time role in Baltimore. Based on deliverables met and performance there will be the potential to move into a full-time program manager position who will impact our programs in each of our 6 cities nationwide.

Role Logistics:

Term: June through December 2018*

Potential to extend contract based on completed deliverables, performance in position and program budget.

Location: Baltimore and/or DC

Stipend: $1,000 / month (with an increase if hired full time)

Areas of Responsibility

Oversee league activities, performance, and growth

  • Oversee local programs & provide program support as needed across all local sites
  • Maintain current and facilitate new partnerships with community organizations and neighborhoods to grow youth registration numbers and get us closer to our goal of serving 10,000 kids by 2020
  • Make sure curriculum is upheld and quality of programs is maintained
  • Develop tools for monitoring and evaluating program metrics
  • Design developmentally appropriate curriculum and program training materials for coaches at the start of each season
  • Interact with parents of programs and enhance retention rates

Recruit, engage, manage & retain volunteers

  • Lead initiatives for volunteer engagement and support, including pre-season training, mid-season check-ins, and end of season celebrations
  • Strengthen relationships by maintaining consistent contact and remaining accessible all volunteers


  • Develop and maintain the pipeline for paid part-time coaches & site leads
  • Lead staff recruitment and ensure all local and national leagues are staffed
  • Ensure all events and leagues are appropriately staffed with either PT coaches or volunteers

Periodic Responsibilities 

  • Design and direct Volunteer Professional Development and Training
  • Collect program metrics and analysis throughout the season and develop tools for evaluation
  • Develop and adapt “Play Curriculum” based on league progress
  • Follow-up with volunteers to track player progress and performance evaluations
  • Staff volunteers at Volo City Kids Foundation events. Send recruitment email, answer questions and confirm attendance prior to event
  • Assign Lead Volunteer to each league as point person for weekly feedback
  • Volunteer Engagement: Plan a mid-season check-in with volunteers in each league. Seek input on progress of the season and share ideas about program developments.
  • Volunteer feedback review & analysis (end of season)
  • Develop and maintain volunteer metrics reporting and analysis (end of season)
  • Collect data & provide analysis to support future funding opportunities

Expected Deliverables for first 6 months

  • Completed seasonal curriculum for targeted age groups, including developmentally appropriate activity manual to support volunteer coaches
  • Two professional development training sessions for volunteers including an end of season celebration
  • Mid- season volunteer check-in activity for each league
  • Collected data and analyses culminating in potential for future funding opportunities
  • Program implementation plan for upcoming season (in collaboration with Executive Director)
  • Organize end of season volunteer appreciation event
  • Secure at least 5 new programmatic partnerships to aid us in reaching our goal directly serving 800 kids in DC for 2018

Desired Qualifications

  • BSc/BA diploma in management or a relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus
  • Experience in early childhood and elementary curriculum design
  • Ability to assume a managerial role and effectively provide program support
  • Demonstrated leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • Excel in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing assigned tasks
  • Understanding of program planning, expansion, and implementation
  • Experience in event planning and execution
  • Knowledge of program monitoring and evaluation

Spanish- Conversational (Although not required, being able to speak Spanish is a MAJOR plus in this role as many of the families we serve are Spanish speaking)
